Floride Smith Dean Music Scholarship
This scholarship was given by Mrs. Floride Smith Dean of Belton, SC. Mrs. Dean was a past president of the SCFMC and a piano teacher for 60 years. Begun in 2000 as an endowed piano scholarship, this is her bequest to the state federation. The yearly award is $1000.00 with $500.00 paid at the beginning of each semester. The scholarship may be retained for 4 years for a total of $4000.00 upon the recommendation of the recipient's piano instructor and the academic dean, and at the discretion of the committee. State chairman must make known the availability of the scholarship.

Qualifications
Student to study for music degree in piano, resident of SC, attend recognized school of music in a college or university in SC, scholastic average in high school of 3.0 (out of a 4.0+ scale)

Cornelia G. Walker Music Scholarship
This scholarship was named for its founder, past state President Mrs. J. Frost Walker of Union, SC. This award is open to high school seniors who plan to major in music at a recognized school of music or college in SC. The award for one year is $1,000 with half of the award paid at the beginning of each semester. If the recipient's rate of progress merits, this scholarship may be retained for four years for a total of $4,000. This scholarship is retained upon recommendation of the student's instructor or Dean of Music and at the discretion of the scholarship committee. Because the recipient may retain the award, it is not necessarily offered each year. It may be offered only every four years. If the recipient does not make satisfactory progress or changes majors, it is not continued and an audition is held for a new winner.

Qualifications
High school senior and resident of SC; piano, organ, vocal, or band/orchestral instrumental student planning to study for music degree; must attend a recognized school of music or college in SC; scholastic average in high school of 3.0 (out of 4.0).

SC Summer Scholarships
The SC Summer Scholarships program presently awards six scholarships to Brevard Music Center – one is administered in each of the six districts, pending acceptance for admission of entrant by Brevard Music Center, six scholarships to an approved band camp with one being awarded in each of the six districts, and six scholarships to an approved string camp with one being awarded in each of the six districts of SCFMC. The three approved string and band music camps by SCFMC are Furman University, University of South Carolina, and Bob Jones University.

Qualifications
Orchestral to Brevard Music Center: ages 14-18. District winners of orchestral Scholarship of $1,000 will compete by a CD for full scholarship. The piano scholarship will very yearly, usually will be $450. or more. Competition for Lee piano scholarship begins on the district level though no money is awarded. District finalists will submit a tape to the SCFMC Chairman of Summer Scholarship for final judging. The finalist for the Lee Piano Scholarship will also receive the $100 Josephine B. Davis Endowed piano scholarship to Brevard. String Camp Awards are for Furman, USC, or Bob Jones (grades 8-12). Each district will award one $200. scholarship. Band Camp are for the same universities for the same ages and in the same amount.

Cornelia R. Freeman Awards
An award will be given to the state Stillman-Kelley Auditions winner and awards to South Carolina entrants in the Young Artist Auditions of the NFMC who participate in the NFMC semi-finals.

Qualifications
The award to the winner of the Stillmann-Kelley Auditions will be a Certificate and a card or letter for the teacher notifying the teacher of the forthcoming payment of $200 toward the winner's continued study. The award of $250 will be given to a young musician with a permanent SC address who competes in the NFMC Young Artist semi-finals. A certificate will be presented.

 


Margaret & W W Conder Music Therapy Scholarship
This scholarship may be given only to Converse College or Charleston Southern University as they are the only two who offer this major.

Qualifications
Student must plan to major in music therapy. Award is $750 per year, renewable each year the student continues to study this subject, if eligible.

The Glad Robinson Youse Adult Composers Contest
The purpose of this contest is to promote American Music and encourage American Composers whose compositions have not been published.

Qualifications
Eligible composers must be active members of currently federated Senior Clubs of Senior Organizations (not associates), or active Senior Special Members with $50. dues paid by October 1 of the contest year. One composition in any of the following categories may be submitted: piano or electronic keyboard solo or duet (2-10 minutes); wind or string solo with or without accompaniment(2-10min); chamber music (4-10 min); vocal solo (2-4 min); SSA or SATB Choral (2-6 minutes). Electronic instrumental compositions not accepted except for electronic keyboard). Applicant must be a natural or naturalized citizen of the USA.

NFMC Ellis Competition For Duo Pianists in Spartanburg, SC
These awards are given biennially in the odd numbered years (were endowed originally by a legacy of the late Annie Lou Ellis). The awards are supplemented by an NFMC award honoring Past National President Lucile Parrish Ward and awards given by Floride Smith Dean and John and Fay Abild, NFMC benefactors. First place award: $10,000; Second place $5,000; Third place $1,500; Fourth place $1,000 (these awards are for the duo team). The Lucile Ward American Music Performance Award of $1,500 will be given for the best performance of American music. All four teams of finalists are eligible for this award.

Qualifications
Auditions will be held at Converse College, Spartanburg, SC with the first place winners invited to perform at the NFMC Biennial Convention. The Federation will serve as managers for two years in securing concerts for the winning team. Preliminary judging will be by tapes submitted to the Auditions Chairman. Entrance fee: $40 per duo team. Age limits: must have reached his or her 18th birthday, but not the 39th by March 1 of that year. Limited to native or naturalized citizens of the USA. Duo pianists already launched on a concert career under professional management are not eligible to compete.
